Wyatt Attorneys, compensation lawyers of Ashfield, Sydney, represent ‘Grace’ Wang.
Grace, 32, is incapacitated as a result of being injected with the wrong solution during an epidural procedure at St George Hospital on 26 June 2010 when Grace was due to deliver her first child.
Grace was incorrectly injected with chlorhexidine, a clinical cleaning fluid, instead of lignocaine, into the epidural space.
Her baby, a boy, was delivered. However, the effects of the chlorhexidine remain with Grace. Now almost two months since the delivery of her child she remains in the high dependency unit of St George Hospital. She is unable to walk, she cannot sit without assistance and she cannot hold her baby.
The prognosis for Grace is unknown. She is grateful for her team of neurosurgeons, neurologists and rehabilitation doctors at St George Hospital who are working with her. However, the only certainty is that her future is uncertain.
Grace is drawing strength from her husband and extended family and her Christian faith. Her sister has travelled from China to be with her. She is well supported by the Chinese community in Sydney.
Grace’s recovery is the primary concern for all involved.
Searches around the world have so far failed to identify the same set of facts. Jason and Grace are keen to invite responses from anyone who may have experience with or know of similar incidents.
Sensitive legal negotiations have been under way with the South Eastern Illawarra Area Health Service which has admitted breach of duty of care in relation to Grace’s treatment at St George Hospital.
As such any further information may be limited. However, any support for Grace is welcome.
