One of the reasons we chose Tasmania as destination, is Tiger Airline happened to have promotion on the day we were thinking about a holiday. We book the tickets 30 minutes before midnight when the special price was available,$20 pp one way to Hobart and $30 pp one way to Launceston. Good price! Although at the end, air fare only accounts for a small portion of the total costs ,which we need to spend a lot more on accommodation etc.
In Melbourne airport, Tiger has a separate terminal, which is quite small ,however it’s better than I expected, as one of my friends already described it to me. But you have to walk to the plane, that’s where we took the first photo.
Less than an hour, we arrived in Launceston, probably is the smallest airport I have ever seen. My wife said the good part of being small is, everything is easy to access: From the entrance of the terminal, 10 metres away you can collect your luggage, 10 metres away you can find the car rental company, walking 50 metres you find your car on the parking ground, driving 100 metres you’re outside and airport and on the highway, too easy!
2nd -4th photo: Cataract George in Launceston, 10 minutes drive from city centre. Beautiful gorge views! There are two walking tracks, as you can see, we took the “main walk” first down to ‘The Basin”, very pleasant and enjoyable, in “The Basin” you can see the chairlifts above the small lake and swimming pool. Then we decided to take the “Zig Zag” walk , only because we don’t want to return on the same way, as you can imagine , the track proves itself for the name.
