"The student is receiving medical treatment and the University has offered its full support to the student via the Health Department. Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt said the national security committee had asked the Federal Government whether travel from Europe should be banned. Mr Hunt said the Prime Minister had referred all questions from the National Security Committee about people returning from Europe to the medical experts at the Australian Health Protection Principles Committee. "We will continue to follow their medical advice," he said. Mr Hunt also said there was no case for major events to be cancelled but that each country and even state had different circumstances. Victoria's Health Minister Jenny Mikakos, when asked whether the Government was reconsidering letting the F1 go ahead, said "we have been acting on the advice of the chief health officer and the advice to date is there has been no need to cancel mass gathering events". Ms Mikakos said the cancellation of mass gatherings would happen after Victoria had developed significant community transmissions but at this point, there had not been a single case of unknown community transmission in Australia. Victoria's chief health officer, Brett Sutton, said the situation was "evolving rapidly". "For the virus to spread, extended close personal contact is most likely required," he said.
