I am Australian with a Chinese background. I have chosen to be an Australian.
Over the years, I have beaten many Aussies and been offered the jobs by the Aussies again and again. I therefore have had the chances to work in numerous multicultural teams. I have learnt that even though most of my colleagues speak with Aussie ascent, their parents were from all over the world: England, Italy, Greeks, Russia and rest of Europe; Korea, China and rest of Asia; Turkey, Lebanon and rest of Middle East; We often go to bar to gether, even dinner and BBQ in each other's house from time to time.
In 2005, our whole team celebrated the Socceroos World Cup Qualify together in the bar at the City. Among us, there was only one guy had Anglo-Saxon background, so-called Real Aussie. I drove more than 20km to join them at 11 the night. That night the whole city was awake, many of us were migrants or decedents of migrants. Yes, we share a drem and sing wih one voice.
The Anglo Aussies sometimes joke with me saying: “You are more Aussie than I am” when they found out that I have been here for almost 20 years. Sometimes I replied: “You’re quite right mate. I have been educated in Australia. I have adopted the Australian value and moral over the years.” More interestingly, the Americans and English even comment on my “Aussie accent”from time to time.
Like most of children born in Australia, my son loves NRL and AFL.
I have enjoyed the Aussie lifestyle. I love the peaceful country. Every time I have to declare my nationality, I write down Australian with proud.
No matter where I go, I still call Australia home.
Australia, my heart belongs to you!
|: We are one but we are many
And from all the lands on earth we come
We share a dream and sing with one voice
I am
You are
We are Australian :|
I came from the dream time
From the dusty red soil plains
I am the ancient heart
The keeper of the flame
I stood upon the rocky shore
I watched the tall ships come
For forty thousand years I'd been
The first Australian
I came upon the prison ship
Bowed down by iron chains
I cleared the land, endured the lash
And waited for the rains
I'm a settler, I'm a farmer's wife
In a dry and barren run
A convict then free man
I became Australian
I'm the daughter of a digger
Who sought the mother lode
The girl became a woman
On a long and dusty road
I'm a child of the depression
I saw the good times come
I'm a bushy
I'm a battler
I am Australian
I'm a teller of stories
I'm a singer of songs
I am Albert Namajera
And I paint the ghostly gums
I'm Clancy on his horse
I'm Ned Kelly on the run
I'm the one who waltzed Matilda
I am Australian
I'm the hot wind from the desert
I'm the black soil of the plains
I'm the mountains and the valleys
I'm the drought and flooding rains
I am the rock, I am the sky
The rivers when they run
The spirit of the great land
I am Australian
