Spring came already. It is real good time to see wildflower in addition to bushwalking.

This Sunday September 19, 2010 we are going to “Wildflower Wander” track of Heathcote National Park via Waterfall next Royal National Park.

This is easy track of 11.0 KM for 3-5 hours, suitable for any level.

The Heathcote National Park is always stunning. Wilderflowers abound all the year round. The most outstanding blooms are the Gymea Lilies seen during August to October. They are big bright red flowers on top a three meter high stalk. Bright pink heath and golden wattles are on show in early spring. Other varieties flower at different times of the year. You can take a dip and even swim in the rock pools during the warmer months. This walk includes a climb up to Mt Westmacott for a 360-degree view and a wander through a lovely gully beside Heathcote Creek. Of course there are some steep bits on the way in and out of the park. Take you time and enjoy the view.

The meeting time and place
9:30 AM, Sunday 19th of September, at end of Warabin Street of Waterfall
GPS S34º7´49.75", E 150º59´31.56"

We are going to see wildflowers along the Hawkesbury River in addition to bushwalking at Marramarra Natioal Park for this Sunday September 26, 2010.

This is middle-grad track of 19.0 KM for 5-7 hours.

How to go there: Take the Old Northern Road through Glenorie and Forest Glen towards Wisemans Ferry. About 7 km north of Forest Glen turn right Canoelands Road (there is a bus shelter at the junction). Drive 7.5 KM to a “T” junction and turn right. About 500 M further on, thee is a “Marramarra National Park” sign on the left and space to park 4 cars.

It is time to resume our bushwalking/hiking in Sydney region after two weeks.

We are going to Wollemi National Park for this Sunday Oct 10, 2010.

Two options of tracks could be chosen:
10 KM of Mountain Lagoon – Colo River Gorge View or
20 KM of Mountain Lagoon – Mailes Ridge – Colo River

Mountain Lagoon – Colo River Gorge View: [size] From a bluff above the Colo River, north of Mountain Lagoon, there are panoramic views of gthe Colo wilderness in Wollemi National Park. This bluff can be reached easily by walking along fairly level fire trails from Mountain Lagooon village which has an elevation of 560 meters.

Mountain Lagoon – Mailes Ridge – Colo River: This walk would provide a good instruction to overnight bushwalking (but easily done within 6 hours). The Colo-Meroo camping area on the banks of the Colo, has a white sandy beach, and good swimming areas. The walking route is along a relative new track, which has been marked by the NPWS. There are fine views over the Colo River along the way.

How to go there: The village of Mountain Lagoon is reached by traveling o Windsor and then along Bells Lines of Road towards Lithgow. Take the signposted Mountain Lagoon turn off to the right at Bilpin. At Mountain Lagoon, take a left turn into Sams Way – a side road which circummavigates the lagoon. One km along Sams way a fire trail branch off to the north.

The meeting time and place
10:00 AM, Sunday 10th of October, at 117 Sams Way, Mountain Lagooon NSW 2578
GPS S33º26´40.63", E 150º38´18.52"

It is time to resume our bushwalking/hiking in Blue Mountains National Park after 2 months. This Sunday Oct 24, 2010, we are going to Leura, the one of the two most beautiful towns (another is Blackheath, based on my own experience) of Blue Mountains National Park.

We will walk “On Top of the World” in the morning and “Look out Leura” in the afternoon.

On Top of the World (8KM, 2-3 Hours)
The walk to Lockley Pylon commands 360 degree view over the world heritage park. It’s a “top of the world feeling” to look across rugged cliff faces and down to valleys below. From the road the foot track leads on a steady incline along a ridge through heath-land and scrub to the high point. There are views all the way to the pylon.

Look Out Leura (8KM, 3-4 Hours)
This walk takes in numerous stunning viewpoints over valleys, creeks and waterfalls. While there are a few climbs we do not descend to the floor of the Jamison Valley. This trial is mainly on the cliff top near Leura.

The meeting time and place

9:30 AM, Sunday 24th of October, at entrance of Lockley (Pylon) track, Mount Hay Road of Leura (10 KM away from Great Western Hwy)
GPS S33º39´4.07", E 150º22´17.94"

12:30 PM, at the crossing of Laura Mall and Craigend Street of Leura.

It is compulsory to wear hiking/bushwalking shoes/boots.

Please SMS 0402 817 164 or MSN petercai08@hotmail.com for your confirmation.

Outdoor activities carry their own risks of injury and death. The Organizer has no any control over what the participant does, and cannot accept any liability for any loss or accidents which the participant might suffer.

This Sunday Nov 14, 2010, we are going to Coastal walk between Bondi and Googee, and see sculpture (by the sea) exhibition in the mean time.

More infomation on Sculpture by The Sea

http://www.sculpturebythesea.com/

This coastal walk from Bondi to Googee (return) is only about 12 KM for 5 hours, starting at Bondi Beach, lunch break at Googee.

This is Sydney's best known coastal walk and for good reason. It's a stunning path that hugs the clifftops and beaches all the way to Googee. There are cafes or kiosks at every beach, lifeguards to look out for you in the surf and saltwater pools at Bondi, Bronte, Clovelly and Googee. The narrow notch of Clovelly Bay also offers good snorkelling on a calm day- you can see large blue groper and many other fish. This walk is throngerd with joggers on a weekend morning so aim for a weekday if you are able to or start early and finish the walk with breakfast at a beachside cafe.

Meeting time and place
10 AM the 14th of Nov (Sunday), at the crossing of Campbell Pde and Notts Ave of Bondi Beach.

How to go
a) Get tyhere by bus
    I) 333 prepay only, 380: Circular Quay (Stand E) to Bondi Beach;
    II) 361 Bondi Junction (Stand K) to Tamarama;
III) 381 Bondi Junction (Stand A) to Bondi Beach.
b) Get there by Car
It is easy to get there by car, but it is trick to find free car park. It is recommended parking car a little far from beach and walking (up to 1000 meters) to the beach.

Everyone is very welcome to join.

Please SMS 0402 817 164 or SMS petercai08@hotmail.com for your intention.

We missed our mate "Katie" Sculputure exhibition in 2009 very much.

Katie's sculpture "shoppers"
young ladies on the Qing porcelain (清代花纹瓷器上的女人们)
the sculpture intends to evoke thoughts that one often encounters in a commercial world full of temptation: (雕塑还原了当今充满诱惑的现实社会)
will one gain salvation through material satisfaction or be lost in a life of luxury?
(有人愿意成为物质享受的奴隶,还是在这花花世界中无所适从)
the refined porcelain-like material in the shape of a shopping bag symbolises the exquisiteness yet fragility of such a life of luxury
(清代瓷器外型的购物袋暗喻了这种人们想“占有”但却又非常“易碎”的奢侈生活)

At the same site in 2010,  It is "Leaf-vessel"  by Virginia King of New Zealand.

12 of us walked about 12 KM for 6 hours including short breaks and lunch time and afternoon tea time.  Everyone enjoyed very much.

This Saturday Nov 20, 2010, we are going to bushwalk/hike at Royal National Park between Heathcote and Engadine

Heathcote to Engadine via Audley

This track is about 15 KM with 635 meters ascent for 5-6 hours.

Covering a large section of central Royal National Park, this walk goes through the heath and scrub along a well managed and signposted track. The walk loops from Heathcote Railway Station around to Engadine Station. With public transport at both ends, toilets and water at both Uloola Falls and Reid's Park, this track has ample infrastructure to keep a walker out for a day, without losing the sense of getting away from it all.

Meeting time and place
9:30 AM the 14th of Nov (Sunday), at the car park of Engadine train station
GPS S34º4´0.48", E 151º0´56.37"

Please SMS 0402 817 164 or SMS petercai08@hotmail.com for your confirmation.

Since Sydneyhiking Club was established in January 2, 2010, we have been continuously walking/hiking, camping in New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria and even China every weekend and most of us enjoyed very much with different experience.

This Sunday Dec 5, 2010 may be the last bushwalking/hiking in Sydney region organized by myself and Circleyue in 2010. We are going to Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park for bushwalking/hiking (for 3-5 hours), swimming, snorkeling, kayak and even BBQ, picnic at Currawong, Great Mackerel Beaches and the Basin Campground.

The walking tracks are about 10-12 KM for 3-5 hours. You would enjoy a few scheduled beaches, excellent historic aboriginal sites and so on.

Let us bring our own watermelon, beers, food to have “relax” Sunday and celebrate successful year 2010.

The meeting time and place

9:30 AM, 5th of December, 2010, Sunday, at Car Park (the end of West Head Road, Westhead lookout) at Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park
GPS S33º34´44.55", E 151º18´30.02"
