I personally think both arguments offered in this thread carry some weight.
Firstly, a lot of the comments in the article need to be taken with a grain of salt. Accusations that nobody helped them, especially rail staff seem a bit unfounded (considering rail staff have a duty of care to passengers, even when off duty. Comments that a lady suggested the students be robbed might also be false, or out of context (if true, it is inexcusable, but fear does strange things to people) -------初看起来有一定的道理，恐惧会让人做出意想不到的事情，但是细想起来，她说那样话是她的第一反应，而且那伙流氓能马上理解并认同她所说的，说明中国留学生有钱在澳洲人眼是中普遍认知的事情，可不可以理解为个别中国人不够低调，警惕性差，容易成为目标
On one side, you have international students getting preferential treatment. As has already been mentioned in this thread, assaults happen on and off the railway network, and they don't make the news because there's no potential for an international incident. That special treatment isn't on, it is regrettable that these students were victimised by some of the lower scum of society, but all victims of assault and violent crime deserve support.
On the other hand, why do we continue to allow these scumbags to roam free across our city? Don't pretend it's isolated to the rail network, or that it's a rail network alone. Just look at certain suburbs of Sydney where it is not safe to walk in after dark. Yes the rail network has some hot spots, but so do other suburbs without railway lines. We need to get our justice system in order, people (especially young adults) have too many rights and they know it, and take full advantage of it. Combine that with a generation that's never been told 'no', because we have to "nurture our kids and be their friends not their parents". -------澳洲人在抚育子女的时候确实过于尊重或放任他们的天性，可是天性也是要去其糟粕，取其精华I realise we have these rights in part because the law used to have too much power, but the pendulum has swung too far. We need to crack down on these scum and throw them away to rot.
Everyone has a right to feel safe on a train at whatever the hour, no matter if they are a large labourer, an elderly pensioner, or an international student.---------想法一致，所以支持广告体现大众化，而非小众，正是我们所说的团结就是力量，公共安全是每个生活在澳洲的人共同愿望，也是澳洲人和中国人的交集所在 I don't care if they are Aussie born or overseas, everyone deserves to feel safe. That said, there are some things you can do to minimise your own risk, travel in the guards car, don't flash expensive electronics around, avoid spreading out your belongings etc. I always tell friends and family that the guard cannot protect you, but they can call for assistance far faster if they know what's going on, and if everyone travels near the guard, there's safety in numbers. Obviously there's less chance of being robbed with fifteen witnesses as opposed to travelling alone in the rear car.------------这些都是很好的建议，如果那两个留学生有一定的防范意识，当他们发现车厢乘客稀少时，马上转到其他人多的车厢，就不会给人可乘之机，个人意见，除了呼吁政府的支持，能否在广告中加入一些如何注意和防范的TIPS，很多人太缺乏防范意识了
Obviously, stopgap measures are not enough. We need to take back our city, and we need the government and the police to do it. The slimy media doesn't help, one week attacking police for using tasers, and the next, attacking them for shooting youths in a car driving on the footpath. Considering the lack of respect paid to police officers, I wouldn't want to be a cop. We need to swing the favour back on the side of law - those of us who abide by the law have nothing to fear. |
