Subject: Urgent: children's welfare at risk
Dear Centre Director,
I am writing to let you know that the Coalition have just released their policy to wind back the National Quality Framework the day before the election to avoid scrutiny.
The Coalition have committed to:
· reduce staff-to-child ratios;
· stop basic training requirements for staff; and
· stop wage increases for early childhood staff.
I’m asking you to print this flyer, put it in parents’ pigeon holes and stick it up in your centre before pickup time to let them know about the Coalition’s secret plans before it’s too late.
You can read their policy here.
The Rudd Labor Government disagrees. We understand that what you do for children during their early years has a huge impact on their development.
We know that your service and your staff have been working incredibly hard to implement the National Quality Framework and improve the quality of early childhood education and care to give children a better start at life.
We need to make sure that your staff and parents know that a Coalition Government will mean that the improvements your service has been making will be stopped in their tracks and wound back if they are elected on Saturday.
Federal Labor is committed to taking real action to improve the quality and affordability of our child care system. We increased the Child Care Rebate from 30 percent to 50 percent and we’ve introduced the National Quality Framework.
Federal Labor will also provide more support more of your staff to upskill to a Certificate III through our new Skilling for Better Services plan – because we know how critical this training is in giving children a great start at life.
In contrast, Mr Abbott has been hiding his child care policy because people wouldn’t vote for him if they knew what he had in store – cuts to the quality of child care for Australian children.
We also still don’t know just what is up to be cut in their promised review of child care.
This sector is too important for us to take a backward step from our record levels of investment and positive reform.
Please print this flyer so parents can know about the Coalition's secret plans.
You can share this graphic on Facebook here to help to spread the word.
Sincerely,
Kate Ellis
