The Database Administrator role reports to the Database Manager in the IT Operations and Application Team and will be responsible for design, implementation, management and providing operational database services to the organisation. The main aspects of the role are:
Management and Operations:
· Responsible for day-to-day management and operations of all SQL servers
· Proactively monitor systems and ensure potential problems are identified early and remediation steps are implemented
Design and implementation:
· Be a part of various projects teams and provide expert technical guidance to design, implement and deliver world class products and solutions
· Proactively engage and liaise with various project managers, solution architects and developers on a regular basis and work on a multitude of project related tasks
Key Accountabilities:
· Install, maintain and tune databases
· Monitor and optimise database performance by performing and reviewing administrative tasks
· Ensure High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) ready
· Identify and resolve production problems
· Collaboratively work with project teams to design and deliver the right solutions
· Provide guidance and assistance in day-to-day project related tasks ensuring compliance with strategy and policies
· Review/refactor SQL code and make recommendations to developers and solution leads ensuring quality code is created and meets policies and guidelines.
· Participation in cross-functional teams for responsive problem resolution and assist in bug fixing and enhancements to existing stored procedures, scheduled tasks and application components
Requirements:
· 7+ years of commercial experience in database administration, development and support in MS SQL Server with 24x7 operations
· Experience in Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO), using native tools
· Expert knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for MSSQL Server
· Knowledge of SQL server change data capture, service broker, analysis and reporting services
· SQL Development – ability to write and troubleshoot SQL Code and design ( stored procedures, functions, tables, views, triggers, indexes, constraints, SSIS packages )
· Experience working with or within agile development teams
· Ability to work under pressure, independently and manage multiple projects and task demands effectively
· Excellent analytical, problem solving and documentation skills
· Strong communication and presentation skills, with ability to influence the business
