If you are buying property as your principal place of residence it will probably not be land taxable in your hands (unless its value is above the land threshold and you are buying from a commercial vendor). In most cases if there is any current land tax liability the seller pays it all. You do not put it in either the buyer or seller allows column in Statement of Adjustment, but merely take part of the money owing to the seller at settlement and instead of giving it to the seller you give it to the State Revenue Office. (That is, one of your settlement cheques is made out to the SRO).
If you are buying a property that will not be your principal place of residence then it may be taxable in your hands too, in which case the current year’s land tax is apportioned in the same way as the water and council rates. |
