邻居退休护士Mrs Stephens给了法院一个书面声明,案发当晚4:40am被外面被感应点亮的感应灯刺激醒,听到几个(不是一个)亚裔男人说话:
Retired nurse Norah Stephens lives in Boundary Road, North Epping, a few houses from the house in which five members of the Lin family were allegedly murdered by their 46-year-old relative, Lian Bin "Robert" Xie on July 18, 2009.
But on Friday, a written police statement from Mrs Stephens was tendered before the court in which she said she was woken at 4.40am on the night of the killings and heard a number of Asian males whispering.
"I was woken when our outside sensor light was triggered," Mrs Stephens said in her statement.
"A couple of seconds later I heard Asian voices whispering. It was ... as if the light had scared and worried them.
"I heard the footsteps quickening ... I didn't get out of bed to see who the people were."
Mrs Stephens said she rose the next morning to find a large number of police and ambulance officers on the street outside the Lin family's home.
