Bushwalking at Garigal National Park this Sunday Sept 6, 2009
The Davidson Park of Garigal National Park is the one of Best Park for fishing, swimming, picnic and even bushwalking/hiking in Sydney region. There are several different tracks in this region such as
Flat Rock and Magazine Tracks (Circuit, 9.5 KM, 3.0-3.5 Hrs): This is a fine bushwalk above Middle Harbour. Deep in the bush it is easy to forget you are walking in a big city – until a waterskier buzzes past. The Flat Rock track is a very easy shady walk by the harbour and you could just get to the pretty cover at Flat Rock and return. If you have time, climb into the upper reaches of Bantry Bay, then loop back to yhr starting point through Killarney Heights;
Central Garigal National Park (Circult,16 KM, 6.5 Hrs, climb 718 M): Travelling through the center of Garigal National Park this track explores Middle Harbou r Creek on both the eastern and the western sides . This track is great for fit experianced walkers looking for a feel of what Garigal has to offer. Davidson Reserve/Park in the middle of this walks is a good opportunity to take a break and enjoy the serenity of th e creek;
Middle Harbour Creek Loop (15.1 KM, 5Hrs 45 mins, climb 571 M): This walk explores the upper reaches of Middle Harbour Creek, starting and ending at the great parklands at Davidson Park in Garigal National Park. There are plenty of nice spots along the way to rest and enjoy the view, there are several sandstone overhangs, plenty of water views and most of the walk enjoys shade by the surrounding bushland;
Casuarina and Carroll Creek Tracks (Circuit, 7 KM, 2.5 Hrs): Starting at Davidson Park, this walk first explores the eastern banks of Middle Harbour Creek before heading up Carroll creek. Near the top of Carroll Creek this walk returns to Davidson Park via the higher Casuarina track. This walk gives great views of the Middle Harbour and Garigal National Park from two distinctly different vantage points. There are also interesting rock formations and some Aboriginal heritage to appreciate along the way;
The Lyrebird Track (Return, 5.3 KM, 2 Hrs): This pleasant return walk starts from the end of the Davidson Reserve picnic area and follows the Lyrebird Track through the bush along the edge of Middle Harbour Creek to the stepping stone crossing on Carroll Creek. The stepping stones are a great place to take a break before returning along the same route to Davidson Reserve/Park for a picnic.
Flat Rock and Magazine Tracks (9:00AM-12:00PM, lunch break at picnic area of Davidson Park till 14:00PM) – Middle Harbour Creek Loop (14:00PM-18:00PM).
