Photography workshops, cooking classes, laser tag and a parkour obstacle course workshop are all part of an array of free and low-cost activities within the City of Sydney’s spring school holiday program.
With events and excursions tailor-made for the 5-12 and 13-18 age groups, children will never be bored these spring holidays from 21 September to 2 October.
School holiday fun
Lord Mayor Clover Moore said the City’s libraries, community centres and children’s services had developed a diverse series of activities to keep the little ones and young adults busy, sociable and active.
“The City’s worked hard to put together a program that will keep children excited and engaged in the school holidays,” the Lord Mayor said.
“Many of the activities for the older age groups are free, while the vacation care program for children aged five to 12 is comparatively inexpensive for a full day’s care and terrific for working parents.”

Activities for the 13–18 age group include trips to the cinema, the zoo, a parkour obstacle course workshop, and free magic and photography classes. The younger ones, aged 5–12, can enjoy bird watching, paper craft, dress-ups, basketball, pottery and wire sculpture making.
The City of Sydney Library is also hosting free short workshops on calligraphy that would suit young people aged 10-18, and ‘Frankentoy’ workshops that are ideal for children aged 5–12. The Frankentoy workshop shows children how to recraft new character toys from old, broken toys and recycled materials.
