Full-time jobs drop most in 26 months Chris Zappone May 12, 2011 - 11:30AM Australia's jobless rate remained steady at 4.9 per cent in April, but the economy shed 49,100 full-time jobs, the most since February 2009. The economy lost 22,100 jobs overall for the month, the Australian Bureau of Statistics said, well short of the 17,000 jobs economists had expected employers to add in April. Some 26,900 part-time positions were added. The Australian dollar lost almost one US cent on the news, dropping to about 106.1 US cents, as investors reduced their bets that the Reserve Bank would soon raise interest rates again.
