Smith fears hooliganism at torch relay Sunday Apr 20 10:58 AEST Foreign Minister Stephen Smith says he's worried there'll be an outbreak of "football hooliganism" at the Olympic torch relay in Canberra. Mr Smith urged people going to the event on Thursday who are either pro-Tibet or pro-China to show restraint and express their views peacefully. He also said Australian authorities would be solely responsible for security and not Chinese personnel. "I urge people if they do turn up that whatever point of view they want to put they put that point of view peacefully and do it in a way in which Australians would regard as appropriate," the foreign minister told Network Ten. "I'm very concerned that unless people turn up with that attitude we'll have the Olympic torch equivalent of football hooliganism." Mr Smith said that in contact with Chinese embassy officials it had been made clear ACT and federal authorities would take care of all security arrangements "That'll be done by Australians exercising their responsibilities. "(But) all the security arrangements in the world will not count for a great deal unless people turn up with an attitude (that) we will (be) peaceful and express a point of view but we won't cause trouble." ©AAP 2008 原文: http://news.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=444707 |
