If you wish to claim a tax deduction for your oversea travels, you need to be able to substantiate that it is in fact for business purposes. having receipts does not automatically entitled you immediate deductions, regardless of whether they are in chinese/english.
It is more important that you can prove to the tax office in the event of an audit that your travel is for business. Therefore it is often a good idea to keep a details travel record/diary, specifing the purpose of your trip, the date you left Australia and the date you returned, provide details in relation to any private portion of the trip, record expenses you incurred on the trip with the support of receipts. The more details you have, the easier it is to convince the ATO that the travel is in fact eligible for tax deduction.
The above applies to work related travel as well as business travel. |
