Blair Retallick,8

AN eight-year-old boy is fighting for his life after being hit by a four-wheel-drive vehicle while fleeing a bully.
Witnesses say the bully threatened to kill him, the Townsville Bulletin reports.
Blair Retallick's parents, Matthew and Patricia, said yesterday they had reported the bullying against Blair, even as late as Monday when the accident happened, but nothing had been done.
Mr Retallick said the bullying situation at Bohlevale State School and lack of action had become so bad, they had already planned to relocate to New South Wales this week.
Blair is in the intensive care unit of Townsville Hospital, Queensland.
''The bullying has been getting progressively worse,'' Mr Retallick said.

''It was going on for the majority of last year as well.
''The upsetting part is the issue was brought to the school yesterday morning before this happened. Patricia spoke about the issue and it was dismissed ... nothing was done about it and it ended up coming out this way.''
Mrs Retallick said she was told by phone of the accident and heard the story from witnesses when she arrived at the scene on Monday afternoon after school had finished.
''Witnesses said this other boy was screaming 'I'm going to kill you' and Blair was basically just running for his life,'' Mrs Retallick said.
''It's a case of 'why? why would this happen?' He's only eight years old and he minds his own business.''
Blair's parents detailed his devastating injuries.
''He has a fractured skull, minor bruise to the brain, a bit of a leakage from his skull fracture through his ear and a laceration on his liver - they've got to keep a good watch on that in case it ruptures,'' Mrs Retallick said.
"He's got internal bleeding on his right hand side that they've had to drain last night and today.
''He's going to be in intensive care for up to two weeks, maybe even three,'' she said.
Townsville Police Inspector Stephen Pyne said a forensic crash unit investigation was underway but it was too early to comment on the cause of the crash.
Education Queensland's North Queensland region director Mike Ludwig said in a statement it was ''premature to speculate on the cause of the accident''.
''The department has offered students, staff and the boys family counselling,'' he said. |
